Inkitt launches Ironblood, a microdrama app built entirely on AI-generated video for action, superhero and sci-fi stories
The platform extends a pipeline already serving 50 million users and one million paid subscribers across Inkitt's romance and fantasy apps
Inkitt Ironblood is now live, following early sign-ups ahead of its July 15 launch
Inkitt has announced Inkitt Ironblood, a streaming app it describes as the first microdrama platform built exclusively for action, superhero and sci-fi content. The company, backed by Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins and NEA, said every episode on the new platform is produced using AI-generated video. The app officially launched on July 15, and the first three movies are live now.
Extending an Existing Model
Inkitt built its reputation on Inkitt CandyJar, which it calls the leading microdrama streaming platform in the United States, with more than 10 million downloads and 80 million episodes streamed monthly. Ironblood applies the same underlying pipeline to genres the company says have never had a dedicated short-form destination.
That pipeline starts with manuscript discovery on Inkitt's writer platform, where a proprietary model assesses more than 1,200 behavioral signals to flag stories with commercial potential. The most promising material is then converted into video using what the company calls its Cinematic AI production tool, a process Inkitt says compresses both timelines and cost compared with traditional production.
Founder and CEO Ali Albazaz framed the launch as a shift in scope rather than a change in method. The company says it has already validated the approach in romance and fantasy across its Galatea and CandyJar apps, and is now applying it to a different audience segment.
"We've proven the model in romance and fantasy to millions of users. Now we're taking our operating system into new genres, new formats, and new audiences. There is no microdrama app specifically for Action, Sci-Fi, and Superheroes. Inkitt Ironblood is it - and we're building it entirely with AI."

A Genre Gap in Short-Form Video
Inkitt points to a specific supply gap behind the launch. According to the company, action and adventure hold the top spot in total lifetime box office revenue, sci-fi and fantasy viewership has grown 52 percent year-over-year, and superhero series generate 3.5 times the audience demand of an average series while facing 80 percent fewer available titles.
Inkitt argues these genres are also where AI video production offers the clearest advantage over live-action filming. Large-scale battle sequences, alien environments and effects-heavy sequences are costly to shoot conventionally, and the company positions AI generation as a way to produce that spectacle without the traditional budget.
The broader microdrama sector has grown rapidly worldwide over the past few years, built on short, serialized episodes designed for mobile viewing. Whether AI-generated footage can match the audience retention that live-action microdrama has achieved in romance and fantasy remains an open question the market has yet to answer, and Ironblood will serve as an early test case for genres with higher expectations around visual spectacle.
Inkitt says its underlying catalog includes more than 400,000 stories, giving it a supply of source material for future adaptations. The company also cites a new Galatea novel reaching one million dollars in sales every seven days as evidence of its broader content engine. Inkitt Ironblood is now live, with the first slate of AI-produced action, sci-fi and superhero episodes available to stream.
Ironblood marks Inkitt's first fully AI-produced content slate and its first move beyond romance and fantasy. Its launch will show whether audience demand for action and sci-fi microdrama translates into subscriptions now that AI-generated footage has reached viewers directly.
