Andrew McGregor, a human rights consultant with McGregor Clan Inventions Inc. in Erin, Ontario, has issued a public notice of a pending civil claim against the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), two named officers, the OPP Police Services Board and the Attorney General of Ontario. The Statement of Claim was issued on April 1, 2026 in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at Brampton under Court File No. CV-26-00002581-0000. The notice says the matters in it are allegations in a filed claim that has not yet been determined by the court.
What the Claim Alleges
According to the notice, the plaintiff attended an address in Caledon, Ontario on November 25, 2023, voluntarily and at the request of the OPP, in connection with a theft report he had filed himself. It alleges that he cooperated and produced identification, including a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence, but was nonetheless arrested, charged with trespassing and mischief, and detained for about 24 hours. It further alleges that property held in trust, including a lawfully held rifle, magazines and ammunition, was searched for, seized and taken.
The claim alleges the arrest was made without reasonable and probable grounds and without a reasonable investigation. It is advanced for false arrest, false imprisonment, unlawful detention, unlawful search and seizure, conversion, negligence and misfeasance in public office, together with alleged breaches of rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
