Chadwicks Group Modernises 40-Year-Old ERP Platform

Chadwicks Group, Ireland's leading builders' merchant with more than 50 locations nationwide, has announced a major milestone in its multi-year ERP modernisation programme. Working alongside technology consultancy J2 Interactive, the company has successfully transformed its legacy Accustar platform into a modern, cloud-hosted ERP system called AccuPRO. The initiative has been recognised with the prestigious 2026 InterSystems READY Impact Award in the Supply Chain category, which acknowledges real-world technology transformation at scale.

A Four-Decade System Reimagined

For more than 40 years, Accustar served as the operational backbone of Chadwicks Group, embedding decades of proven business logic and invaluable institutional knowledge across its branch network. However, its terminal-based "green screen" interface could no longer meet modern requirements for usability, scalability, cloud readiness, or device independence. Onboarding new employees had also become time-consuming and costly, placing additional strain on the business.

Chadwicks faced a challenge familiar to many long-established enterprises: how to modernise a mission-critical system without losing the intellectual capital built into it or disrupting day-to-day operations. The answer was AccuPRO — a web-enabled, cloud-hosted ERP built on RESTful APIs and a responsive Angular-based interface, enabling secure access across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. A key advantage of the project was that Accustar was built on the InterSystems IRIS data platform, enabling modernisation and scaling of the system without rewriting it from scratch or sacrificing decades of historical data.

Programme Progress and Future Plans

The modernisation programme is currently approximately halfway to completion, with key milestones already being reached in 2026. J2 Interactive provided end-to-end technical leadership across all critical business areas including credit control, financials, inventory, purchasing, logistics, and quotations. As each module of Accustar is migrated into AccuPRO, the platform delivers a dramatically improved user experience for both back-office and branch teams, underpinned by secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure. The modern architecture also enables faster innovation through APIs and DevOps practices while laying the foundation for future business expansion.

Following the success of the initial pilot, Chadwicks is expanding the engagement with J2 Interactive to include additional workflows and infrastructure components, with the firm continuing as a trusted long-term modernisation partner.
